A salt lake situated between the Rift Valley’s Eyasi escarpment and the Kidero Mountain, the area around Lake Eyasi is home to the Hadzabe people, dome of the last remaining hunter-gatherers on the continent.
There is little resident wildlife in the area, aside from dik-dik and baboons, but depending on the water level, the lake is an important source of fish for Arusha and it often supports hundreds of thousands of flamingoes as well as a variety of other water birds.
